Caring for the Elderly

"I'm grateful that your team came to our village to conduct health education programs and give away health products for free. Many of the families in my village don't understand how to take care of their health. I have children and grandchildren and I will share with them what I learned from the doctors and nurses during this program. Thank you for organizing such an activity."

Parents as Stewards of Good Health

Now that she has a family of her own, both Tserang and her husband work hard to send their kids to school. From digging up caterpillar fungus to sell, to working in construction sites, regardless of the weather, they would stay out working all day. This causes Tserang to experience back pain frequently. But because of their unstable income, she wouldn't dare spend money to go to the hospital and have a health checkup.

Healthy Bodies and Grateful Smiles

"Certain illnesses such as gynecological diseases become serious over time if not attended to. Everyone knows this but most of the time, we would rather deceive ourselves and disregard the pain rather than face the reality that we cannot afford to pay for medical services even if we badly need it," shares Tserangtso.

Prioritizing Health

Most of the rural villages visited by the My Health, My Family, Our Safety Program share a common story - majority of the villagers endure sickness and don't prioritize their health. This is true in one of our project stops where a total of 255 people were attended to.

Instilling Health Awareness in Remote Places

"My two children are in high school and are both doing excellently in their studies. I feel proud and happy seeing that they cherish their education. I want my family to have a better life so I save up as much as I can. I have never considered taking care of my health as a priority."

Passing on Good Health Practices

235 villagers including 96 women came out to the My Health, My Family, Our Safety project in their village. The team of doctors and nurses spent time with the villagers and explained good health practices and provided medical checks for those who needed them. Many women in thie community have never been to see a doctor mostly due to the remoteness of the region. It is a long and tiring trip to a medical centre.

Bringing Health Information to 228 Villagers

During the My Health, My Family, Our Safety awareness program, Gazangji received a consultation with the doctor. She could hardly express how much the health training and information meant to her. She was grateful for the opportunity to learn about disease prevention and how she can manage her health better. And this is the best part - she is excited to convey what she learned to her family and friends. Projects like this are successful when the participant start conversations about what they have learned.
