One of the women who participated in the program was a 41 year old single mother with three children. This woman was illiterate, had never been to school and spent her days taking care of her sick mother.

Over 240 Mongolian women participated in the Healthy Village Program earlier this year. After the training session, over 180 of them also received a medical health check throughout the two days the medical team were in the township. The majority of the women are illiterate and for many of them this has been the very first time they received a health check.

Change starts with information, knowledge is the first line of defense. Women like Kardotso, will now be able to share this knowledge with her daughter as she grows up.

43 village women have recently had the opportunity to attend a one day training program in their village of A Zhuang, which covered women’s health issues, infectious diseases and childcare. Many of these women have been living with various health concerns for many years.

These women however, are strong and determined to take care of their families. When they heard that a doctor and medicine was coming to the village the word spread quickly and hundreds of women and children and even some men turned up to attend several days of health training, free medical examination, medicines and critical health information – telling the dangers of STDs, explaining best ways to care for babies and how to manage women’s health. So much of this was new information to these families and has changed many lives.
