OMY: Mose to Become A Doctor
Mose, a bright and determined student, dreams of becoming a doctor after witnessing her illiterate parents face discrimination at a hospital.
We’d like to share with you this story, written by some of the older girls at the Seng Girl’s Vocational Training School (SGVTS) in Qinghai. We know you all enjoy hearing from these girls.
“During the last lesson each morning, the food smells drift into the classroom from the open kitchen door. It is appetizing and very good. Our stomachs began to rumble and we all can’t wait to have lunch. The student’s canteen is located at the back of our school. It has two rooms, one small kitchen and the other bigger with tables and chairs. The dining area is big enough to hold over 100 students, all eating together.
The two chefs are like food magicians. They change the raw ingredients into the tastiest meals with rich flavors. We have two dishes each day for lunch. Each week we enjoy green pepper fry meat, fried potatoes, fried meat, fried cabbage, fried garlic bolt, fried eggs with tomato. Most of us especially like the potatoes and fried meat and we can eat two or three bowls at a time! After lunch, fruit is prepared for each student. We normally have apples and bananas. Breakfast is usually served with steamed bread and porridge. We enjoy the little steamed bread. It is fragrant and soft and we don’t feel full until we eat three or four! At dinner time we like typical noodles and sometimes meat porridge. When the weather is cold, after eating a bowl of meat porridge our bodies are warm all around.
Meal time is the best part of the day, where we can all sit together, talk and enjoy delicious food.”
