6th Annual Shenzhen Midnight Race Results

Blog by B. Horibata

The best kept secret continues to rally more than a 100 runners from all parts of Shenzhen to compete in the annual, “Midnight Charity Race” hosted for the sixth year in a row by Greg Schultheis

Runners start approaching around 22:00 and they are all suited up and ready to run promptly at 23:00.  The race is around the perimeter of Lian Hua Shan and you can challenge yourself further by completing a 10K if you run the route twice.

All proceeds from the race go directly to Captivating International and their work in Western China.  Specifically, this year’s funds will be used to support a new program focused on emergency medical attention and vocational school scholarship solutions for identified children.

This year, more than a dozen young ladies from the Seng Girls Home project (currently studying in Dongguan and Shenzhen) raced with other local and expat runners and felt the exhilaration of competition.  Greg Schultheis praised the participants, sponsors, and donors who raised over RMB 208,000 the evening of November 8.  Greg also added that this race was not possible without the support and efforts of volunteers who checked in the runners, maintained safe routes and lighting and overall support to the runners.

Andrew Colquhoun, co-founder of Captivating International said, “This has been an astonishing year for Captivating so far and we are able to fund several significant projects that will positively affect the lives of a thousand children and their families because of people like Greg.  Shenzhen’s support is once again amazing”.
