Microfinance Group Unshaken by Quake

A few weeks ago, the Philippines was taken aback by a series of quakes that shook several provinces in the Central to Northern part of Luzon and some other provinces in Visayas, causing severe damage to properties and lives -But not this microfinance group in the rural parts of Bataan.

Microfinance is keeping my kids in school

Mina was married at the age of 15. Now, at 32, her and her husband have a daughter and two sons. She was from a poor farming family. She tells us her story. “I started a ‘Chatpat’ (a quick sour, chilly snack) selling business with an investment of about Rs. 2,000 (US$17) as that’s all my family could afford. I was able to earn around Rs. 1,000 (US$8) daily and although this was not much, it boosted my confidence. That was 6 years ago. I wanted to grow my business but I wasn’t able to get a loan."

Greenhouses for 40 single moms

The 2018 Greenhouse project brought greenhouses to 130 families across 3 different village locations. Mr Tserang is the Village leader of a project location where 40 families, mostly single moms, have benefited from this greenhouse project. He is a very responsible village leader and fully supportive of the project. There are 57 households in his village and another 63 families...

Planting seeds and watching tall trees grow

"I have watched these girls transform from shy and timid girls to confident girls who are confident enough give speeches in front of the school. It gives me a great feeling to experience planting seeds and seeing tall trees grow. I know the girls are grateful for this opportunity and are thankful to those who believed in them enough to support their education."

Stopped BEFORE she left Nepal

Pallav struggled to provide for her children after her husband left until one day when a stranger approached her and offered her a good paying job in India. Desperate to help to children, she gladly accepted the job and began her journey across Nepal into India. The man followed in another bus behind, but Pallav was just happy to have this wonderful opportunity. At a routine bus check, staff from one of our Captivating Monitoring stations asked her where she was going. After Pallav explained her good fortune she was asked if she knew the man who offered her work. She admitted that she didn't know him.

The "My First Job Program" has changed my life

Wango is the best student in the My First Job Assistant Chef program. She is a fast leaner and all the food she cook is always delicious. Wango takes the My First Job classes seriously and works really hard to learn everything she possibly could. It takes her 1 hour by motorcycle from her home to attend class everyday.

This lady (in red) received a loan to establish a tailoring shop. She is a single mum and has been unable to receive a loan to help her get established. She loves to sew but has not had the opportunity to advance her skills.

Building a life of dignity

One of the girls from the Blessed Project made this beautiful seat cover. These seat covers are now available for rent - for parties and events in the local region. There is so much room for creativity for the girls, not only in sewing but as well as in finding ways to make these products available to the local market.
