What Do Parents Know About OSAEC? Here’s What We Learned

One of the main tenets of stopping cybersex crime is through education. We ensure that all of our program beneficiaries in the Philippines undergo online awareness programs. During our second meeting and disbursement, 225 parents and guardians from Marytown received essential information on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

We successfully hosted 4 online safety seminars all in one day for our beneficiaries. During these sessions, we distributed our updated and rebranded OSAEC activity and information booklets for their perusal. Later on, we collected feedback forms to assess the impact of our efforts.

Here’s what we learned:

• – 0 were initially familiar with OSAEC except for one participant who had attended our seminar in the past.
• – 80% of our beneficiaries would seek assistance from the police while the remaining 20% would turn to trusted family members for help, when facing potential threats.
• – 94% expressed they would directly intervene if they knew someone was in danger, either by calling the police, reporting to hotlines, or encouraging the victim to do the reporting. The remaining 6% opted to inform their family members.
• – All beneficiaries now have a clear understanding of OSAEC, know appropriate online safety measures, and feel confident in sharing their knowledge with others.

We remain committed to equipping slum communities and beneficiaries with crucial information about OSAEC, helping them to confidently prevent potential dangers and ensure the safety of their children and others.
