Maju [name changed] gave birth to a little baby however this baby was not her husband’s and so she sold her newly born baby for just Rs.5,000 [US$47]. With this money, Maju left her village and moved to the city to find work. The baby was finally brought to the attention of local authorities and our Nepal partner who found out the baby had been sold multiple times. This precious little baby is now safe with a family who will love and protect the future of this child.

Kalpana* is now safe

Kalpana [*name changed] is 19 years. Kaplana buried both her parents while she was still in grade 9. She wanted to continue her schooling but her circumstances hindered her path to education and as is the tradition in Nepal, Kaplana had an arranged marriage by her sister however her husband was an abusive alcoholic. She was ready to take her own life until she met a man who understood her hardships and promised that he could provide her with a job in India.

Chameli's bright future begins!

Chameli [name changed] is 29 years of age and has two children aged 3 and 5. Chameli was abandoned by her husband and his family. She move to Pokhara in hopes of being able to provide for her two children. Single mothers with no job and no family support are easy targets for traffickers. Chameli heard about the Captivating / 3AN My Business-My Freedom program. This life changing program equips women with skills and opportunities to become self-sustainable - helping to prevent her and her children from becoming victims of human trafficking. Chameli joined one of the My Business-My Freedom groups in her community.

A Future of Freedom begins for 66 Women

The new 3AN/Captivating program called My Business-My Freedom has launched in Pokhara, Nepal. We are so excited to share with you that 66 women have, so far, begun the process to starting their own business. This will provide a steady income for these women and give them security to one day become truly independent and self-sustainable. Within 12 months, over 200 women will be part of this life-changing program.

Stopped at the border

Kyrah* is 28 years of age. She survived the earthquake in 2015 with her 2 children but has struggled to find work to support her children and rebuild their lives. A neighbor approached Kyrah one day stating that he was an agent who found jobs for people in Israel. Kyrah was filled with hope that she would be able to secure a well paying job so her children could have a future. All she needed to do was cross the border into India where her visa would be processed and then fly off to Israel.

HOME VISITS changing lives in Nepal

1,675 families were visited throughout Captivating funded regions in Nepal during the January – March quarter by staff from our partners 3 Angels Nepal. These families are mostly from poor areas who are easy targets for exploitation and trafficking.

562 girls spared from the horrors of trafficking

This is reason to celebrate! 562 girls are now safe! Between the October – December 2016 quarter, these girls were all intercepted from Captivating funded border stations in Nepal, in the act of being trafficked out of Nepal. 562 girls now have a future of freedom and understand the dangers of human trafficking and the lies and deception used by traffickers.
