Empowering the Students in Payatas to Protect Themselves Online

In line with our ongoing Cybersex and Trafficking awareness campaign in schools in the Philippines, our team had a meaningful time with the principal and guidance officer of one of the elementary schools in Payatas. Payatas is known for its landfill site, with many residents making a living by scavenging through waste and rubbish. Filipinos are heavy social media users, wherein the youth and even those in the poorest communities can access the internet. This makes the Filipinos vulnerable to online predators.

We are committed to supporting teachers in creating a safer environment for children in Payatas. The school administrators are grateful for the partnership and believe our Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) activity and information booklets will greatly benefit their students, especially with the prevalence of online abuse among children.

Moreover, the principal also shared the harsh reality of cases of domestic and sexual abuse within the community, highlighting the importance of spreading awareness and the inclusion of reporting hotlines in our booklets for addressing OSAEC-related concerns. Through this partnership, 1,500 students will be empowered with the knowledge and resources on how to protect themselves online.

2024 will see Captivating fund education and awareness programs reaching 30,000 women and students in locations considered significantly at risk of cybersex crime and human trafficking.
