Last August 28th, the Universe English Boarding School in a province of Nepal hosted the Hamro Abhiyan program, which was attended by 110 participants. Our thoughtful approach involved proactive engagement to help the students understand the risks they face and how to avoid becoming human trafficking victims. The program was well-received by the school administration and teachers, who encouraged the students to actively participate.
Feedback from the School:
The Universe English Boarding School headteacher recommended the program and mentioned that this was the first practical awareness campaign against human trafficking. He praised the efforts of the Hamro Abhiyan facilitators in educating senior students about human trafficking. He even went on to say that other schools should consider running this program as well.
A female student in 10th grade shared her thoughts: “The program was exciting. Initially, I thought only girls were trafficked, but that was entirely wrong; people of all ages and races are affected. I used to think brokers only sell people, but I was mistaken. Unplanned employment can also lead to trafficking. This event has expanded my understanding of trafficking. I realized my knowledge was limited; it was like a grain in a desert. The more I engaged, the more I was captivated by the topic.”
