Sheci Luozhi: All Grown Up as a Senior Sister

Sheci Luozhi is one of our students who was chosen to be part of the One More Year Scholarship Program in China. She is a Grade 11 student, and she feels that she has grown so much since she stepped on the campus. She now calls herself the “senior sister” amongst the year 10 “junior brothers and sisters”. She shares her experience in school and expresses her gratitude to her sponsors in her most recent letter:

“It’s incredible how time flies by, and I still remember the day I stepped onto the campus like yesterday. I am already a year 11 student. High school has been challenging for me, and I have realized how difficult it is to master all the subjects. I am particularly struggling with mathematics, so I am working hard to catch up with my classmates and improve my overall grades. I want to excel in my studies and ensure I have no regrets about Gaokao.

Girl Happily Studying in the Library

Sheci happily studies in the library.

I have role models in school: they’re called Wang Chongmo and Li Mohan. They are highly outstanding students, having countless awards at only 15 years of age. They are optimistic, diligent, and hardworking, and their spirit of perseverance and courage to chase dreams always uplifts me. Every time I see them getting a trophy, I feel genuinely happy for them; their efforts and rewards tell me that their hard work is never in vain.

You have already sponsored me for four semesters, and I want to thank you very much for your help. What you have given me is not just limited to material support but emotional encouragement. After receiving the subsidy, my mom often tells me, ‘Child, you are bringing your dreams as well as expectations from whoever is loving you; don’t let yourself down, and don’t let us down.’ So, every time I meet an obstacle, I think about those words to keep myself from giving up.”
