Our One More Year Scholarship Program (OMY) partners with the Shenzhen Charity Federation to support 500 qualified girls (and some boys) for “One More Year” in senior high school. If they are successful in meeting the scholarship requirements, we will continue to support them until they graduate. Know more about OMY here.

We are always pleased to learn and share the stories of the girls who made it through our program and are now pursuing newer, more exciting stages in their lives. One of our OMY graduates, Luo Huamin is now pursuing a degree in Statistics, hoping that the skills she would learn from her degree would make her find stability in the corporate world.

Luo Huamin wrote to us, and we cannot help but share it with you.

“Today, with immense gratitude, I am writing this letter of thanks. Although I have never met you, your kindness is like a warm sun in winter, illuminating my path forward.

My name is Luo Huamin, and I come from an ordinary but loving family. However, fate seemed to enjoy testing us, and my family faced some hardships that plunged us into financial difficulties. Just when I was worried about the costs of my education and nearly lost hope of continuing my studies, your support shone like a beacon of light into my dark world.

Your assistance is not just financial; it is a source of spiritual support and encouragement. It has made me realize that there are many kind people in this world who are willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. This warmth and care have reignited my passion for life and learning.

In school, I study diligently and do not allow myself to slack off for a moment. I know that the only way to repay your kindness is through excellent academic performance, so I strive to meet your expectations. Every time I make progress, I silently thank you in my heart. Your support allows me to sit in a spacious, bright classroom and learn with peace of mind. It enables me to purchase study materials and broaden my knowledge. It also allows me to participate in various extracurricular activities and develop my skills.

Beyond academics, your assistance has taught me to be grateful and to give back to society. I actively participate in volunteer activities, doing my best to help those in need. I hope to pass on the love you have given me, allowing more people to feel warmth and hope.

Here, I want to express my sincerest thanks once again. Thank you for your generous support, for your selfless dedication, and for your care and encouragement. Your kindness will forever be etched in my heart, serving as a driving force in my life.

I will work hard, continuously improve myself, and strive to become a person who is useful to society. I will use my actions to repay your kindness and the expectations of society.”

Well, wasn’t that touching? Luo Huamin thinks she is the only one who needs to express her gratitude, but we, too—thank her for inspiring us to help other girls achieve their dreams. No girl must drop out of school due to poverty, and her words are fuel to keep us moving forward.
