In line with our efforts to educate and equip vulnerable communities with the tools and knowledge to prevent Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and human trafficking, we hosted an online safety seminar for 100 students and their parents at Bayanihan Elementary School.

Our student participants are mostly composed of 11-year-olds—this is the average age of an online-exploited child. In the seminar, we discussed responsible online behavior, spotting red flags that could lead to OSAEC, and other ways to prevent child exploitation. Moreover, we added a detailed discussion about the OSAEC law.

In the event, community key members like teachers and barangay or local government representatives were present to hear about our knowledge-sharing efforts. This way, we could create more sustainable collaborative efforts among various community members. Activity booklets were handed out to ensure proper retention of the learnings, and to be of use in the future.

After the seminar, we met with the school principal and local barangay officials. They expressed their gratitude for reaching out to their school and providing such a valuable session for the children of their barangay. In the meeting, we shared with them the enthusiasm for exploring future partnerships in both the school and the local community. Hopefully, more projects will line up to advocate safer communities for the children!

Our efforts do not stop at schools like Bayanihan Elementary School. We also conduct our seminars in churches and other community spaces to meet the vulnerable halfway. To this day, we continuously make important knowledge like this easily accessible to them.
