One of the many struggles of the impoverished is the mismanagement of finances. To stop poverty, we do not only provide opportunities to invest in girls’ education or provide livelihood opportunities for their mothers—we also provide knowledge on how to lessen the likelihood of the vicious cycle of poverty through financial education.

In the last quarter of 2024, a three-day financial literacy workshop was conducted for our scholars from all eight Captivating Village Development Program-supported villages. The program aimed to equip participants with personal finance management skills to use in their daily lives.
We organized our participants in clusters to ensure effective participation and focused interaction. The sessions were facilitated by a financial expert hired specifically for this program. One of our main objectives was to create awareness about the importance of saving, budgeting, and making informed decisions when it comes to money.
The event was attended by 110 participants from our CVP-supported girls in high school, vocational trainees, and some students who had dropped out of school but are still engaged in our CVP-related initiatives.

On the first day, we introduced the intimidating concept of financial literacy—making it easily digestible and attainable for our participants. We taught them the importance of saving, and understanding personal income and expenses. The second day was about budgeting, managing household finances, and avoiding financial pitfalls by being proactive. The third and last day is for the participants to envision their financial future. There, we had interactive activities on financial goal setting, investment basics, and long-term financial planning.
After the program, our participants mentioned how they found the workshop insightful and relevant to their everyday lives. It was not every day that people would teach them how to handle money, and they are earnestly grateful for this opportunity. Hopefully, these little efforts that we make could help these girls move forward in their lives, making wiser financial decisions for themselves.
