We conduct multiple efforts to stop human trafficking in Nepal through interception, educational support, livelihood programs, and most especially: awareness. We believe that awareness is the first step to advocating for or against something. Just like everyone else is saying: prevention is always better than cure. It’s better for vulnerable individuals to realize they are at risk, before they already engage with malignant actors and risk their freedom and safety.

Late last year in November, we collaborated with Ward 15 in Pokhara to host an awareness program about the current state of human trafficking in Nepal. It was attended by 40 participants, composed of both male and female individuals from various women’s groups and local communities. After the program, they expressed their thanks, as they emphasized their realizations about this relatively unknown pressing issue in their community. In their feedback, they recognize the responsibility of community support in eradicating this pervasive problem. In another ward, we were warmly received as we conducted the same program. It was attended by 50 participants.

Even our online efforts do not fall short! Late last year, we also conducted a virtual awareness program on safe migration, centering on the experience of a woman from Kuwait. She spoke about her experiences and the red flags she did not see when being recruited for foreign employment. Her experience provided valuable insights, which will help our staff to organize more effective programs on this topic in future initiatives.

These are only a few of our awareness efforts to date. If you wish to help us spread the word more, you may consider donating or learning more about our work.
