We recently collaborated with Hope Worldwide Philippines for an online safety seminar for their center heads and social workers. The organization operates across seven centers in the Philippines, serving high-risk communities in the Luzon and Visayas regions. They have worked with cases involving physical and sexual abuse among children, however, they acknowledged that they still have a lot to improve on OSAEC-focused training materials.
It was a two-hour training session. The staff shared their experiences in their communities and how training is crucial in preparing them for future OSAEC cases. In areas like Cebu and Tacloban (Visayas), there have been cases of mothers grooming their children. Even when someone is concerned, their local government units are still unaware how to take action to these reports. Another staff member shared a story where a child was sitting with her father and watching age-inappropriate content—further proving that not because children are with their parents, they are already safe from these kinds of exposure.

As we observed their manner of engagement in our sessions, we saw their strong commitment to learning and knowing more about addressing OSAEC. One of them mentioned that it’s increasingly necessary to learn about this since children now have 24/7 access to digital devices.
Due to our partnership, Hope Worldwide is now about to execute awareness campaign initiatives for more than 6,000 children, parents, and community leaders in high-risk areas in Visayas. To help them begin, we sent 6,000 booklets to their 7 locations all over the Philippines. These booklets will help educate and empower, enable staff, parents, children, and community leaders to understand the risks of OSAEC and confidently take action when abuse is identified.
Our efforts to help Hope Worldwide do not end in training and distribution of booklets. While they are starting to share our advocacies, we are continuously equipping and assisting them to ensure that we translate these knowledge into practical and sustainable actions.
