Last year, we launched our efforts in Daantubo, our third Manila Slum Program community. And just recently, we had our first-ever disbursement! The mothers eagerly attended the session, listening intently as we shared more about the goals of our program. We expressed our hope to make them our partners in this journey while they supported their families.

We were approached by a lady who had the glint in her eye that one has when eager to connect. She first thanked us for the opportunity, and then shared that in the past, her daughter had been begging her to send her to school. As a mother, it really broke her heart that despite her eagerness, she could not simply give her daughter what she wants and needs. They had no money for transportation, and food was scarce—it simply could not be done. But since we started our program in their community, saying yes to her daughter’s schooling had never been easier.

Representatives from the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) joined us to show their support for the program. The event was made even more special by the presence and active participation of mothers from our first and second Slum Programs in Ronas Garden and Marytown, who happily helped make the day a success.
