Every year, our Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women (HET) provides sewing and life skills training to 30 women with low education backgrounds, and aged 20-35 in remote areas in Qinghai Province, China. Each woman who attends the classes will leave the program with basic tailoring skills, basic literacy, and personal finance knowledge. These new learnings help enable them to earn sustainable incomes, support their families, and achieve financial independence.

We have already helped a lot of women in the past, and word got out! A needs assessment was recently conducted in Henan Mongolian Autonomous County, and it showed the need for more programs like HET in their area. We had already conducted HET in the past, but since only 30 women can be enrolled in each batch, a lot more are in need of livelihood projects like this. Many of the women there have already heard of the successes of our program in the past, and the female leaders in those communities are happy to connect us with women that they have preselected for our training.

This February 15th and 16th, our project manager conducted face-to-face interviews with over 70 women in the area. The interviews went well despite the snowy weather. As a precaution, we asked the interviewees to come separately for their safety, since we cannot accommodate all of them at the same time. If the circumstances were different, we could have taken a nice group picture!

This 2025, we will be organizing two programs, which will start at the same time, with participants coming from Delonng, Amoho, Namchu, and Shigal villages of Yougani Township. While we only have limited slots, many women who were not accepted are looking forward to joining the training in the future. This only motivates us to do more so we can help more women who only wish to improve their lives.
