The increasing transportation and living costs in the Philippines affect not only the lives of the day-to-day workers but also the lives of our students from the Manila Slum Program.

Before we began our project in Ronas Garden, many students were reported missing classes. When we examined why, it’s because many of them could not afford the daily costs of transportation to and from school. As a response, we started provisioning transportation allowances to them. This was our way of encouraging the children to go to school every day and help their parents see the value in their education.

As the school year of 2024-2025 closed this May, we are happy to share that 76% of our beneficiaries in Ronas Garden have reached 80% or more in school attendance! These numbers show real progress from the data before our program, where 55% of the pupils often miss 80% of the school days in an academic year.

The results truly show a staggering difference in the level of participation among our students. Our efforts provide real drive for children to continuously show up in hopes of shedding more light on their future—one school day at a time.
