In Ronas Garden, our first Manila Slum Program (MSP) community, Ate Yeng is a known member because she works as its local health worker. Although she has a steady job, she still faces financial hardships. Ate Yeng is a single mom of two girls and a grandmother to two children. Her elder daughter became a mother to two children at a young age. Now, her younger daughter tries her best to stay in school.

Through MSP, she receives educational support for her youngest. With it, she has fewer expenses to worry about. In turn, her youngest shows her gratitude by attending school consistently, and now, she is graduating Grade 12! Ate Yeng is very proud of her daughter, as this is a huge milestone for her family.

Our relationship with Ate Yeng does not end with the support we provide her child. She has been an active partner with us since we established MSP in their community. She played a role in connecting our organization to her community and has taken an enthusiastic part in our activities and seminars. Over the years, we have seen her grow as a community leader. Right now, her leadership makes her more attentive to the needs of those around her, as she encourages fellow residents to support one another.

Because of our donors’ continued support, we had the privilege to witness the growth of women like Ate Yeng and their children. Her story only proves that our efforts do not stop at our beneficiaries; they create a ripple effect of positivity amongst communities.
