Maina Sunar (21) is one of our beneficiaries in our Captivating Village Development Program’s Pig Farming Program. A lot has happened in Maina’s life since we first met her.

When we met her, she was a young married woman. She went to us and expressed her desire to undergo pig farming training and start her own business. In three days, she learned not only the necessary skills in pig farming and entrepreneurship—but also gained the confidence to pursue her dreams.

In six months, she was able to sell her first pig for NPR 15,000 (USD 98), yielding a profit of NPR 9,000 (USD 59), and since then, she has acquired two additional pigs, which she later sold for NPR 100,000 (USD 655)! The success of the pig farming venture has brought joy to her household and has given her financial independence to pursue her aspirations. Her in-laws are proud of the achievement, and they are now planning to construct a farm to expand Maina’s business.

She is not alone in her endeavors now. Her successes gave other people confidence in what she does. Her in-laws have helped her focus on her business without the burden of daily chores. Because of this, she was able to set goals to contribute to her family’s welfare.

Maina further adds, “As I look into the future, I am excited to expand my business and contribute to the growth of my family and community. I am  proud of the transformation that my life went through, and for the opportunity to share my story as a testament to the power of education and entrepreneurship.”

She gave a heartfelt thanks to our organization for our support and the opportunity that enabled her to earn a dignified livelihood and a more fulfilling life.
