“Greetings from the High Plateau! I am a teacher in a Vocational School in Qinghai Province. I am proud that my school is part of the Vocational School Scholarship Program and is helping to get girls back into school. I come from a nomadic area in Western Qinghai Province. I grew up in nomadic area and my family were herders. My family struggled financially and got into great debt to ensure that my siblings and I got a good education. I understand first hand how difficult it can be for families. The sacrifice of my parents paid off because now that all my sibling have good jobs, we can help our parents in their old age. I am very proud to have parents who believed in the power of education.”
“I have watched these girls transform from shy and timid girls to confident girls who are confident enough give speeches in front of the school. It gives me a great feeling to experience planting seeds and seeing tall trees grow. I know the girls are grateful for this opportunity and are thankful to those who believed in them enough to support their education.”
The Vocational School Scholarship program is currently providing catch-up vocational education to 220 girls who have had to drop out of school. These girls are studying Nursing, Teaching, Tibetan Medicine, Accounting, Computer Studies and Tourism. The first cohort of students will be completing their education including their internship in July 2019. We are excited to be part of the next chapter in these girl’s lives.
