Manila Slum Project Extends Support to Young Moms
In Manila's busy streets, many children miss out on schooling. But there's hope as we work to change their story.
One of the things we are doing in our microfinance program in the Philippines is getting together through fellowship and meetings of our program’s existing members.
Last June 2 marked “Bayan Bayanan Fellowship’s” first fellowship meeting. They are the first group formed in their area. One of our existing good payers from another fellowship recommended a prospective client from this Barangay. Upon surveying the area and credit investigations, we started the group with 5 members. All of them attended and gave their first repayment today. We will monitor their performance closely. We want them to see each other’s commitment to their group by attending our fellowship meetings and not just drop off their payments and go.
During their meeting, other mothers in the area also expressed their intent to join our program. We are grateful to our field partner in the Philippines, Honor 1000, and our donors for enabling us to start this new fellowship! We continue to extend our reach as we help more Filipinos be financially literate and independent.
