Transportation Support to Get to Class

Joan is a daughter of a single mom. Her mom does laundry to earn and support Joan and her siblings. But because her mom would have only occasional laundry jobs and Joan has 6 other siblings, they don’t have enough money to cover her transportation expenses in going to and from school.

Because of this Joan rides a tricycle taxi going to school but walks back home because her school allowance is not enough for another tricycle ride. Other times, she misses school completely when they don’t have enough money even for one tricycle ride to get her to school.

Joan is very grateful to be part of our Manila Slum Program, which provides her with an additional allowance for going to and from school. This motivates her to persevere in her studies and finish primary education, which for her is a step forward in reaching her dream to become a pilot one day. Today, our program is helping Joan attend school more regularly.
