The Incredible Progress of Women in the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program

Over the past month since the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women started, the students have diligently punched in every day, arriving on time and rarely taking leave, especially cherishing this unique learning process. This batch had predominantly timid and shy women, so there was little interaction between students and teachers. However, they actively participated in group discussions, humbly learned each stitch and thread placement, and discussed each detail with one another.

Women Learning Tailoring

Participants during a productive learning session

The progress from initially crooked stitches to now well-formed seams could only be achieved with the support of teachers and leaders. Needlework has traditionally been a craft performed by women, and what better way to upgrade this knowledge than by learning digital techniques, having a deeper understanding of fashion design, and applying what they learned to practical operations?

Despite that, some of those participants still struggle with planning design drawings or translating their design ideas onto paper, and others face issues due to limited numerical skills and not knowing where to start with designing patterns. Thankfully, the students have been serious and highly responsible for their learning throughout the entire learning process,

Getting Guidance from Teacher

Getting Guidance from the teacher

During classes, they listen patiently, seek advice from each other, and actively participate in class activities. For example, when designing Tibetan dress sleeves, they proactively seek guidance from teachers; when designing vest collars, they discuss which collar styles are most popular. Under the teacher’s guidance, they use their imagination and creativity to produce exquisite pieces, including shirts, vests, and Tibetan garments. With the teacher’s guidance, the students have gained a new understanding of tailoring and are motivated to learn tailoring independently.

As we continue progressing together, the organizing team and the participants feel a sense of warmth and gratitude. It’s amazing how much we’ve accomplished, and none of it would have been possible without the support of Husky Energy. We are so grateful for their contributions and for making this journey a reality.
