Awareness Program for Transport Workers

Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, saw the crucial role of transport workers in Nepal in combating human trafficking. Knowingly or unknowingly, they could be transporting potential trafficking victims across the border.

In partnership with local authorities, 3AN conducted interactive awareness programs among auto rickshaw operators and bus drivers in different regions. Between January to March, a total of 482 drivers and operators participated and benefited from these programs. They discussed the issue of human trafficking and how illegal transport aggravates the problem. The program helped the drivers be more informed and cautious. They also have an idea now of who to inform should they see suspicious activities and operations.

Reflections from Educators

Many schools have been identified in hot-spot trafficking regions of Nepal. Students from these regions are from poor, lower class families and are considered easier targets by traffickers. When the schools finally reopened after months of lockdown, our dedicated team of experts made a big push to reach out to as many schools and communities possible.

Moving Forward Despite Challenges

When the pandemic started in 2020, the Hamro Abhiyan Anti-Trafficking Awareness Program was one of our most affected programs on the ground. This 2021 was no different. There were window periods when restrictions were lifted, but were cut short with surges of COVID cases.
