Jiniu Yiqu: Discovering Hard Work Through Sports

Jiniu Yiqu is one of the many students who are able to continue their studies through the One More Year Scholarship Program. This is her letter to her sponsors.

Dongzhikyid was only able to attend primary school. Though it was just for a short time, she was able to learn to read and write. During her spare time, she continued to practice reading so she could obtain a decent job someday and provide a better life for her children. But because she didn’t finish school, she always missed out on getting a good job.
When she first joined the My First Job Assistant Chef Program, she was nervous and worried that she would slow down the class’ progress because other women may already be more skilled than her. Dongzhikyid doubled her efforts, working diligently everyday on the assignments the teacher gave them. Because of her hard work, she was able to keep up with everyone else.
During her training, she learned about various dishes and discovered her own style of cooking. She now works in a restaurant, contented and happy. Her aim is to maintain a long and stable employment to reduce the economic pressure in her family, as well as to create more job opportunities for herself in the future. She’s very grateful for those who underwrote this project. She’s also especially grateful for her mom who, despite old age, willingly takes care of her children so she can make time for the training and work.
