FACT! EVERY 3 HOURS a girl is intercepted at a Captivating Funded Nepal Border Station

Our anti-human trafficking work in Nepal continues its fight, now working in 5 different high-risk regions.

Krishnanagar is one of those regions. This work is coordinated and implemented by Rajendra Gautam (who attended our Shenzhen Auction event Oct 2015) and his team at 3 Angels Nepal (3AN). Thanks to the financial support from the Jamoca Foundation in Australia (who fully fund our activities in this region) and the incredible partnership support of Asian Aid Australia who have worked with 3AN since their inception, 3AN programs are being implemented that are (a) intercepting girls being trafficked cross border into India; (b) providing counselling and rehabilitation to trafficking victims; (c) implementing community wide initiatives aimed at prevention and education; and (d) implementing programs aimed at addressing one of the key root causes of this problem – the extreme poverty of remotely located women and families.

We are pleased to announce that the Krishnanager program became part of the “Affiliated Alliance for anti-human trafficking” recognised by the district government and the government committee protection cluster.

We also recently received an impact update from 3AN for the October – December 2015 period. These numbers will both thrill you (at the impact being made thanks to financial support from many of you) but also shock you (at the terrible extent of this business):

THE NUMBER OF GIRLS INTERCEPTED AT CAPTIVATING FUNDED BORDER STATIONS (Oct – Dec 2015)
In Krishnanager Region – 263 women
Across all stations funded by Captivating – 718 women

Nepal Logos (1)This means that EVERY THREE HOURS a girl is assessed by border control personnel (and confirmed by further interview by the participating local police station) that she is quite likely in the very act of being trafficked. She will be refused entry across the border, her family will be contacted to come pick her up, both she and her family will receive counsel, and where possible prosecutions will be made.

This is terrible work, but we are so glad to be a part of it. Great job 3AN. Thanks for such fantastic recurring support the Jamoca Foundation. And thank you Captivating supporters for your support of our wider work in Nepal. Together, we are all playing a part of bringing “a better tomorrow” to these girls.
