False Job Overseas

With the pretext of a better job opportunity in Israel, Yoona (name changed) was being lured by a pimp. She was asked to take out a loan of Rs. ten lakh (USD 8,500) from a local cooperative. Yoona was able to convince her family members to get the loan so that she could go to Israel for work. When our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, learned about this, they immediately took action by reaching out to her.

Yoona was informed that there is no legal provision for Nepalese women to be employed in Israel. Additionally, many who arrived there through illegal means have reported of being abused and sold to the owners as they are made to work as housemaids where they are highly prone to harassment and violence. The pimp was taken into custody for further investigation as he seems to have lured several women using the same tactics.

The extended pandemic and lockdown has taken the jobs of many women and made them vulnerable like Yoona.
