Hamro Abhiyan is Back

After months of lockdown and schools being closed due to the pandemic, we are very glad to share that our Hamro Abhiyan Anti-Trafficking Awareness Program is back!

During the lockdown period, our partner 3 Angels Nepal, did not cease reaching out to communities to raise awareness on the dangers of human trafficking and how to prevent it.

Now, as restrictions are being lifted and children are back in school, the team is back to holding interactive learning sessions with the students. So far, 18 schools impacting 1,715 students have participated in the program. We are hopeful that we’ll gain back our momentum and reach even more students in the next months.

Reflections from Educators

Many schools have been identified in hot-spot trafficking regions of Nepal. Students from these regions are from poor, lower class families and are considered easier targets by traffickers. When the schools finally reopened after months of lockdown, our dedicated team of experts made a big push to reach out to as many schools and communities possible.

Training the Nepali Police and Armed Forces

“The program was successful to deliberately provide the relevant enormous knowledge about human trafficking which directly helps our police to deliver effective and relevant services.”

Moving Forward Despite Challenges

When the pandemic started in 2020, the Hamro Abhiyan Anti-Trafficking Awareness Program was one of our most affected programs on the ground. This 2021 was no different. There were window periods when restrictions were lifted, but were cut short with surges of COVID cases.

More than 300 Women and Children Reached

As many people have lost their jobs, a lot have been suffering from mental issues, a number of families are not able to put food on their plates, and the risk of trafficking is continuously increasing. Out of desperate need, some may be resorting to selling sexually explicit materials online, while some may be easily lured to crossing the borders illegally in search of foreign employment. Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, turned to communities, reaching them one by one and conducting awareness programs so that women and children remain informed.

Awareness Program for Transport Workers

Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, saw the crucial role of transport workers in Nepal in combating human trafficking. Knowingly or unknowingly, they could be transporting potential trafficking victims across the border.
