Moving Forward Despite Challenges

When the pandemic started in 2020, the Hamro Abhiyan Anti-Trafficking Awareness Program was one of our most affected programs on the ground. This 2021 was no different. There were window periods when restrictions were lifted, but were cut short with surges of COVID cases. Generally, schools were closed and gatherings were restricted, making it challenging for us to reach out to students and communities.

Amidst unstable conditions, some things remain unchanged – the rampant issue of human trafficking and the need to raise awareness and education among children and communities. Fortunately, our partners – staff and volunteers alike – have always kept their desire to fight trafficking alive.

We are very proud and grateful that the Hamro Abhiyan program resumed in schools and communities in September. Since then, 3,042 students have participated in the program across 29 schools in Nepal, and hundreds have participated in various communities.

More than 300 Women and Children Reached

As many people have lost their jobs, a lot have been suffering from mental issues, a number of families are not able to put food on their plates, and the risk of trafficking is continuously increasing. Out of desperate need, some may be resorting to selling sexually explicit materials online, while some may be easily lured to crossing the borders illegally in search of foreign employment. Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, turned to communities, reaching them one by one and conducting awareness programs so that women and children remain informed.

Awareness Program for Transport Workers

Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, saw the crucial role of transport workers in Nepal in combating human trafficking. Knowingly or unknowingly, they could be transporting potential trafficking victims across the border.

These programs reached a total of 1,989 students who were all very keen to learn new things regarding human trafficking. Their responses to the program were positive and inspiring.

Turning Students into Advocates Against Human Trafficking

The highly acclaimed, award winning, Hamro Abhiyan anti-trafficking program is rolling out through schools in Nepal. During a 3-month period (July to December 2019), 66 schools which included 2,027 students participated in this interactive, school-based program. The Hamro Abhiyan program tackles the key issues surrounding human trafficking which turns these students into advocates in their school and local community.
