She was regularly beaten and sexually abused by her boyfriend. Many times he even tried to kill her. She lived in fear of him but didn’t know of a way out. One particular day, the 3 Angels Community Radio (3ACR) ‘Legal Counselling’ program was airing. The topic of discussion was about how to report and who to contact if they were being abused or victimized. After listening to the episode she called the radio station. She shared the things that were happening in her life. The 3ACR staff were concerned for her safety and asked her to come and talk with the lawyer who presents the ‘Legal Counselling’ program.
With the help of the 3 Angels Nepal (3AN) lawyer, she filed a case with the police and her boyfriend was arrested. He is now in police custody and the case is being heard in the courts. The girl received much needed medical treatment and with the help of the 3AN team, is now working towards re-establishing her life in safety and freedom.
Cases of domestic violence are significantly on the increase in Nepal. 3ACR reaches over 20 million people every day. Vulnerable women and girls in remote locations are hearing these life saving messages that violence and abuse is NOT OK and that there are people who can help them.
