HET: Tara’s Tailoring Story
We visited Tara, a Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program graduate. Despite challenges, she is now thriving with two years in tailoring, sewing from home while caring for her daughter.
With the completion of new classrooms, our girls in Qinghai at that SGVTS are getting their first taste of computers. Thanks to funding received last year, 10 computers were supplied this past month as the first stage of a computer training program. A computer teacher has been employed to take the lead on this and she is also doubling as an additional Chinese language teacher. Kalsang and Serr Tso (having recently completed their internship at the Captivating Shenzhen office) are also assisting with teaching computers to their sisters. Currently the computer training is limited to the older girls only, however, should this program prove successful, more computers will be added at a later stage benefiting girls of all ages. Computer skills, coupled with good levels of Chinese language are sure ways to open up doors of future opportunity for these girls.
