The 2024 Graduates of the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women
The Husky Energy Tailoring (HET) Skills Program for Women has been completed this year, and 29 out of 31 trainees graduated last August 16th after three months of training.
The Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women has made remarkable strides in empowering women in Henan County. Equipping them with tailoring skills has enabled participants to create their income through self-employment, fostering economic independence and improving living conditions for themselves and their families. Additionally, the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women has played a vital role in preserving traditional crafts and culture within the community. One of the chosen applicants for this year’s Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women is Lhamktso; this is her story.
Lhamktso is a single mother. She went through a tough divorce and now found herself raising two children on her own. Unfortunately, her ex-husband provided no financial support, but thankfully, her two caring brothers could lend a helping hand to provide for her and her children’s needs from time to time.
Lhamktso’s family mainly relied on social welfare support, which barely met their basic needs. Despite facing many hardships, Lhamktso has a dream: to provide a better life for her children and break free from the shackles of financial struggles.
As a child, Lhamktso had to forgo her education to support her family. While her brothers had the opportunity to attend school, she spent her days helping at home, and her heart ached at the thought of never holding a pen to write her name.
Ten years ago, Lhamktso’s family took a courageous step by selling all their livestock to buy a small house in the bustling county town. However, her health started to falter, and she faced several health issues, including gynecological problems, severe headaches, and joint pains. These health challenges made it even more difficult for her to work and support her family.
Lhamktso’s mother, who had been a pillar of support, faced frequent hospitalizations due to illness, adding to the family’s financial burden. Though the government provided some subsidies, the challenges of daily life persisted.
Despite the trials, Lhamktso’s determination remained unyielding. Amidst the hardships, hope sparked on the horizon. Lhamktso learned about the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women, offering a chance to learn valuable tailoring skills.
With unwavering focus and determination, the training program aims to equip these women with the essential tailoring expertise that will empower them to take charge of their future. The Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women is not just about learning the craft of tailoring; it symbolizes hope, opportunity, and a pathway to economic independence for these women and their families.
