Earlier in August, the second round of Husky Energy (now a member of the Cenovus group of companies) Tailoring Skills program started.
Under the request of the locals, the teachers assisted in screening and selecting the women to be part of the program. Thirty women, coming from different villages, proceeded with the training. These women did not receive any formal education, and do not have a steady source of income. They are hopeful that through this training program, they will increase the likelihood of finding a more stable job and improve their families’ living conditions.
As of writing, 98% of the trainees have now completely mastered measuring and designing Tibetan clothing and operating the sewing machines independently. Each trainee is expected to complete a piece of clothing as part of their midterm assessment. More than half of the trainees got a perfect score, with the rest following closely.
Aside from their sewing skills, the trainees have also showed great attitude towards learning as shown in their attendance and active participation throughout the learning process. We sincerely hope that this training program will help these women succeed in life moving forward.
