A Man Attempted to Transport Melinda

After a man who looked like a foreigner was found with Melinda* (name changed for privacy), they were taken to the booth for primary investigation. At first, the man lied claiming to be Nepali, but when taken to the police he was revealed to be an Indian citizen.

A phone call to her family was not successful because of a network problem so she was interviewed separately. In her family of eight members, she dropped out of school while studying in grade eight because the family could not support her. The same happened to her four sisters.

When she stopped going to school, she became more involved with household duties and spent more time on Facebook, where she was connected to a man, whose continuous chat made her fall in love with him. He lied about his nationality and asked her to marry him.

He came to meet her and asked her to come with him to India without informing her parents. It seemed like a better idea to run away with a guy than to stay in a family where everything was chaotic and financial problems were commonplace.

When Melinda discovered the truth, she finally realized all the red flags she had missed just because she was blinded by her love and trust for the man. The fake nationality, the lies, and telling her to run away with him without informing her parents – these are all the warning signs of an attempt to transport her.

The police were notified of the incident, and Melinda told them everything. Her mother arrived to receive her after three days in transit home.
