During the last quarter of 2024, we made sure that we are conducting a program that would truly empower girls, as they come out of the incoming year more confident and empowered. As a part of our Captivating Village Development Program (CVP), we conducted a Leadership and Public Speaking Training for our CVP-sponsored girls from Ramantar, Bijauna, and Sunachuri. 27 girls attended and the session was expertly facilitated by Sharada Sharma Paudel—a seasoned trainer in leadership and public speaking in Nepal.

We conducted this training because we witnessed the need to build confidence and enhance the communication skills of Nepali girls. Many of them are intelligent, but not all can express their smarts to inspire others. We believe that girls must be strong advocates for themselves and that their opinions matter, hence the need to conduct this.
The program had three key highlights. First, is the Interactive Sessions where we taught them practical exercises like impromptu speaking, group discussions, and role-playing activities. It was designed to help the girls overcome their shyness. Second is the Enthusiastic Participation. It was designed to keep the girls actively engaged throughout the program where they will be compelled to come forward and practice public speaking. Third and last is Skill Development. We equipped the girls with helpful techniques to structure speeches and present their ideas clearly. It was also designed to help them handle audience interaction effectively.

One of the participants remarked, “I was very nervous at first, but now I feel more confident speaking in front of others. This program has motivated me to express my thoughts freely.”
With multiple positive feedback, we can say that the training was a resounding success. But the real test is how they would apply these learnings in real life. We are rooting for more girls to take up space in their school, and eventually, their communities—to inspire other girls to be like them.
