Mum Kumari B.K. (34) is a wife and a mother to two children in Banke. Their family does not make much money, but they try their best. Her husband is the main breadwinner, working as a farmer and taking on occasional labor work. They are poor but they are clear with their priorities: children must stay in school at all costs.

Aware that they need to add more income to their household, Mum sought out help and joined a My Business-My Freedom microfinance women’s group in her area. After learning about entrepreneurship, she got her initial loan of NPR 30,000 (USD 219) and invested it in goat farming. Proper focus, hard work, and patience made her successful in this venture enough to repay her loan. As the goat population grew, she recognized an opportunity for expansion and secured another NPR 30,000. Now on her expansion, she acquired additional goats and constructed a larger, more suitable shed to keep them in line. Subsequent sales of matured goats allowed her to repay her second loan.

Not only has Mum established herself as a responsible member of her women’s group, she also gained confidence through making money. Her family’s quality of life has improved now that she could meet her two children’s educational requirements without a headache. She is truly grateful for the chance to improve her life, and she is not stopping here!
