One of our long-time members, Preeti (26), shares her My Business, My Freedom Microfinance program (MBMF) story. She inspires women in her community, and with the right opportunities and hard work, women like her could improve their lives as they hoped!

Preeti is the mother of a family of six members in Banke District, Nepal. Six years ago, she made a life-changing decision to join MBMF through Shakti Women’s Group. She had always been in a low-income household and had limited beliefs when it came to success. Before she joined, all she wanted was for her family to have enough money to feed them, to send her children to school, and to have enough cash for medical expenses when one of them gets sick.

She received an initial loan of NPR 20,000 (USD 145) and used it to invest in goat farming. She started with only two goats and diligently looked after them. She made sure they were healthy to increase their value, which later paid off! The goats gave birth to two kids, which multiplied her income. Not too long after that, her first loan was repaid. Now confident with her goat rearing, she took out another loan worth NPR 60,000 (USD 436), which paid for the construction of a shed for her growing population of goats. Presently, she makes NPR 130,000 (USD 944) annually from this venture!

Preeti’s dreams changed from survival to abundance! Now that she can support her family, there is no stopping her from reaching newer heights.
