Our One Hope Microfinance Program’s main mission is to protect vulnerable women from the threat of sexual exploitation by providing loans for sustainable micro-entrepreneurship. We provide small business loans starting at PHP 6,000. Each client will then be a part of a fellowship group where they must commit to meeting weekly for payment and community building. They can continue borrowing up to PHP 30,000. This way, they have the chance to elevate their living standards and foster positive change in their communities.
Time flies too fast because Malou has been with us for nearly a decade now. When she first started her business, she only had a small store selling frozen chicken. And today, she proudly welcomes us to her third store! The store had only been open for five days, yet it was already bustling with customers.
When asked what her secret was for her continued growth, she reveals that none of it is a secret at all! Firstly, choosing strategic locations is the key. Secondly, finding reliable suppliers helps her business flow freely and lets her purchase products at lower prices. And lastly, she thinks of her customers above all else. Because she can get a good deal out of her suppliers, she ensures that her customers also get a good deal too! She also remains intentional about keeping expenses low by opening stores close to her home and other branches. That way, she can easily monitor and manage each store.
Through her business’s growth, Malou has been able to support her family’s stability and future. Both her children are now in college—one studying engineering while the other studies education. She mentions that seeing them close to finishing their respective degrees has been one of her greatest joys. Her next goal? To save enough money to buy a vehicle that will make product transfers easier. With her track record of hard work and dedication, we know that this goal is not too far off.
Malou’s story is a real testament to how amazing things can happen when unwavering determination meets opportunity. She is a real testament that good things can happen to anyone, and there is an abundance of blessings in the world when you put heart into what you do and are well-intentioned in your work. We are sure that she inspires many more mothers in our program to continue working toward their own goals.
