As we continue our partnership with HOPE Worldwide Philippines for our Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), we met with their program director, eight teachers, and social workers from Tondo, Payatas, Laguna, Tacloban, and Leyte to check the real-world impacts of the program.

They highlighted that the advocacy booklets are very complementary to the seminars. It shows intentionality in how we design our programs. Because of this, participants can bring something home to share what they have learned with their families, friends, and community members.

Our intentionality goes beyond program plans and workbooks. The delivery of the program also provided a safe space for students to share experiences that they would normally keep to themselves. In one seminar, a female student approached their staff to report a former schoolmate who asked her to send nude photos. But since this person no longer goes to their school, the school’s admin can no longer take action. After the student shared this, they realized the bigger weight that school-based efforts bring. Children just need to be engaged in the conversation to bring about change in these communities.

Now that they’ve reached a new level of clarity about the importance of the work, they are more committed than ever to continuing seminars for school teachers, counselors, and principals.

As always, we express our deepest gratitude to HOPE Worldwide Philippines for partnering with us and our implementing partner, Sanghaya Foundation, as we reach more communities and beneficiaries who need them most.
