Our Manila Slum Program helps support girls from vulnerable families by funding their schooling. Every month they will receive financial support and in return, their parents must attend our regular meetings for check-ins on their children’s progress. They are also required to attend seminars that cover important topics like OSAEC (Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children) awareness and online safety. Future sessions will also focus on parenting effectiveness, as guided by the DSWD’s Parenting Effectiveness Service (PES). These efforts help our girls grow into kind, responsible, and well-rounded individuals.

Parenting Seminar

We consistently enact these activities to reach our project’s long-term goals. Late last year, we conducted parenting seminars while disbursing school allowances to Ronas Garden beneficiaries as usual. However, the topic was new. It was about mothers identifying the factors that weaken and strengthen their families. It was a truly reflective session where mothers get to step back and think about what works for their household and what doesn’t.

To add a more positive twist, mothers were instructed to write each other words of encouragement, which they appreciated and created a supportive and uplifting environment. Now, we have noticed positive changes in the recent sessions. The mothers engaged more in our sessions and showed positive attitudes towards each other.

Positive community building truly works wonders for our children, it may take time to see the results—but we know we are on the right path.
