Last April 14, we successfully started another batch of the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women trainees! 60 women were admitted, split into two classes.

It was quite an interesting process to complete all 60 of them. On the preliminary stage of in-person interviews, 59 of the pre-selected women arrived while one was absent due to the death of a family member. In that room were other women hoping to get a slot, and while not everyone was allowed to be a part of our program, they expressed their determination to try again next time.

There was an overwhelming surge of hope in the area due to the women who were eager to change their lives. We could really tell they try their best because most of them hail from remote areas with long travel times. During the program, the women were attentively speaking and energetically engaged in our classes.

In the afternoon, formal classes officially started, and the trainees were excited to use the sewing machines for the first time. They had not been exposed to anything like it before, and their eyes spoke of their wonder. To make sure they would not miss an important step, the women took out their phones and recorded some of it to practice on next time.

The women we help are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, lack formal education, are single parents, or have no stable source of income. One can only imagine the joy they experience in having an opportunity like this.

Amidst laughter and excitement, the 2025 HET Tailoring Training Program began with great success! And may we launch more and more to come.
