Puja Rana (29) is an active member of the Bhagahan Women’s Group of our livelihood initiative, My Business, My Freedom. Moreover, she is also a member of our savings and loan cooperative to successfully manage her money. Her husband works as a mason, but it did not make much. Pressured to make more money, she tried to start dabbling in entrepreneurship.

She secured an initial loan of NPR 20,000 (USD 147) to begin pig farming. Despite the demanding nature of her dual roles as a pig farmer and daily laborer, Puja demonstrates exceptional dedication and hard work. It is not a walk in the park to consistently clean the pig pens and look after their health. Eventually, this hard work paid off and she made NPR 15,000 (USD 110) monthly!

Recognizing the importance of female empowerment and economic independence, Puja actively advocates for women’s rights and place in her society. Furthermore, she plays a crucial role in raising awareness against human trafficking within her community. Puja expresses deep gratitude to us and our donors for the support. To this day, she continues to inspire other women towards financial self-sufficiency, and does not plan to stop speaking out about it anytime soon.
