In Nepal, our program My Business-My Freedom (MBMF) provides microloans for mothers susceptible to human trafficking. To maximize their chances of success, they must regularly attend meetings with their women’s group, where they learn about entrepreneurship and financial literacy, as they socialize with empowered and like-minded women.

One of our beneficiaries is Krishna Devi B.K. (51), a mother of a family of six. As an active member of her women’s group, she frequently attends meetings and finally took out a loan to change her life for the better.

When we first introduced MBMF in her area, Krishna was hesitant and unwilling to participate. It took a while before she saw her neighbors join and see the legitimacy of the program as they helped improve their lives sustainably. After a talk with a trusted friend, she decided to become a member.

When she was finally eligible, she took out a loan of NPR 35,000 (USD 242). She immediately used this money to expand her already existing pig farming business. She initially only had two pigs, but the loan helped her buy additional livestock and fix up the pigsty. Now, all she needs to do is to continue working harder to turn it into a sustainable income source.

Her husband has been equally supportive, assisting her in managing the farm. She expresses deep gratitude to the organization for helping her strengthen her financial position. As an expression of appreciation and building of trust, she repays the loan on time and never misses a deadline.
