In Nepal, our program My Business-My Freedom (MBMF) provides microloans for mothers susceptible to human trafficking. To maximize their chances of success, they must regularly attend meetings with their women’s group, where they learn about entrepreneurship and financial literacy, as they socialize with empowered and like-minded women.
Pansari Batha (50) is one of our beneficiaries. She is the mother of a household composed of five members. This number alone is quite a lot for one woman, but she somehow manages to manage her household and care for her entire family. After her sons had moved abroad to work and her children had grown, Pansari had more time on her hands. What used to be a challenge in raising kids suddenly feels lacking now that her kids are gone. She felt the utmost urge to prioritize herself this time.
What better way to find yourself outside of motherhood than to make your own money! When she learned about MBMF, she immediately joined Surakshit Women’s Group. Having received her first loan of NPR 30,000 (USD 207), she bought two goats to raise. In 11 months, she had completed the repayments.

Confident about her first try, Pansari took out NPR 50,000 (USD 344) to further expand her business. Through this, she was able to buy better goat breeds and invest in their nutrition and care. The second loan was successfully repaid as well.
She did not stop at her second loan as she took out another NPR 70,000! (USD 482) By this time, the income she made from goat farming already significantly contributed to her household income. And this third time, she invested in a well-managed goat shed where she continued to look after the goats’ nutrition and overall health.
Now unstoppable, Pansari couldn’t help but express her gratitude to our organization for our continuous support and guidance throughout her entrepreneurship journey. She acknowledges that the assistance provided has played a vital role in strengthening her livelihood, improving her family’s well-being, and empowering her to become more self-reliant. Not only is she a loving mother, but she is also a self-sufficient woman who is capable of many amazing things.
