In Nepal, our program My Business-My Freedom (MBMF) provides microloans for mothers susceptible to human trafficking. To maximize their chances of success, they must regularly attend meetings with their women’s group, where they learn about entrepreneurship and financial literacy, as they socialize with empowered and like-minded women in our community-building activities.

Padma Budha (41) lives with her two children (both school-aged)  while her husband works abroad. Every day, she does the heavy work of managing a household as she awaits her husband’s remittances. Because of their growing needs as a family, his salary is no longer enough to support all four of them.

When she learned about MBMF, she was thrilled! She joined Sirjana Women’s Group and took out her first loan of NPR 30,000 (USD 198)  to start goat farming. With three healthy goats and dedicated care, Padma successfully repaid the loan in ten months.

Now more confident, she took out another NPR 50,000 (USD 330) to expand her farm and build a proper goat shed. Over time, as the goats reproduced and her herd began to grow. That second loan was also successfully repaid.

On her third loan, she loaned NPR 60,000 (USD 396) to buy a different goat breed and improve her goats’ shelter. With now seven goats in total, she sold a castrated goat for NPR 40,000! Right now, she is consistently on schedule with her repayments and expresses profound gratitude towards our organization for our continued support.
