It’s true that it takes a village to raise a child. While it is the parent or the main guardian’s sole responsibility to look after their child, it is also helpful to come to your community when help is needed.

Mary* approached us during our recent disbursement to share some concerns about her granddaughter and our beneficiary in our Manila Slum Program in Marytown, Denny*. Recently, Denny had been staying with her other grandparents, and they had been neglecting her. As a result, Denny had been falling behind in her studies. She had failed subjects because of her repeated absences.

Mary spoke with the school to explain their home situation, asking for help to have Denny returned under her care. When Denny was with her, she had been doing well in school and was not failing like this. Mary just wants to actively support her education again and ensure that she comes to class regularly.

We appreciate Mary’s honesty in sharing this with us. We recognized that she does not only see us as the organization that provides allowance disbursements, but also as a part of their community. Her commitment reinforces the importance of active parental involvement while also showing how partnership between parents, schools, and Captivating International helps create a strong support system for every child.
