Work Experience Brings Confidence to Kalsang

by Kalsang

Time is like a river, flowing day and night, never stopping.  It flows quietly by us, and we slowly grow older and wiser. It’s like everything has changed, and yet our dreams of a better future never change.

I found a job for the weekends at a store. I am a cashier, and it has been a challenge for me but this experience has helped me overcome my shyness and boost my confidence. The first day at work I was really nervous and slow. On top of that there was a pile of items waiting for me to scan, and there was a group of strangers watching me. At the time I was worried I was taking too long and the people would complain to the manager, or that I would give someone the wrong change. As the worries amassed in my mind, I became paralyzed with pressure and worry. I was tempted to run away and quit. But, my heart kept saying not to give up or to become disheartened and to believe tomorrow would get better.  After I persisted for a couple of days, I noticed I had improved quite a bit and was able to keep up with the other cashiers. I was able to relax and be at peace, and face my new customers with a smile every day. I am really grateful for this experience.

I learned from my work experience to focus on what’s at hand and not to get distracted. I also learned to do my best, take my time, and stay calm, that way I will be one step closer to finish my task at hand.

I am thankful to all the people who have created a place I can learn so many new things. This has made me feel extremely cared for, and I can’t thank you enough for helping and supporting me. I will pass this love on to someone else, so there will be love in all the world. Lastly, I wish you all the happiness in the world. Happy Christmas!

Thank you to Denise and Rosanna for sponsoring Kalsang through her high-school program at Eden. Kalsang will complete her schooling in July, 2019 and we look forward to watching her take her next steps.
