Ms Peng is a very happy single mother of her 16 year old adopted daughter. She is one of the beneficiaries from the Pigs for Poverty Project in 2017 and was among 70 families who each received 2 pigs. Ms Peng and her daughter were struggling to survive financially and then the pig project came to their village 12 months ago. They received two pigs from the Captivating Pigs for Poverty project and learned all about how to raise pigs to breed and the best time to sell the piglets.

12 months after she got her 2 pigs, her first litter of 8 piglets were born. She sold 7 of her new piglets. This earned her around RMB 5,000 [US$720] in just a short time period. A well managed sow will produce 2 litters of piglets a year. On average, this means 18 piglets a year. Ms Peng is very confident that she will be able to earn a good income from her pig business as she is already looking forward to her 2nd litter for the year. “The pigs have been a great support to us. My daughter is confident that she will be able to help us grow our small pig business to keep increasing our income. I truly agree this is a safe and sustainable way for my daughter and me to earn a good income. Thank you very much for supporting us. We will never forget your help and support.”
