“Hats off” to our awesome 2018 greenhouse supervisor

Mr Tredan [wearing the cowboy hat in the photo below] is the main supervisor for our current greenhouse construction program. He is a shy man but strongly believes in this program as an excellent way to significantly improve the livelihood of impoverished single moms in Qinghai, China. He was our key in the success of our 2017 Greenhouse Project and we have been grateful he was willing and happy to help out again during the 2018 project – a program that has brought hope to 131 families this past year. It was dusty work but the results were exciting as each Greenhouse started to take shape.

Laying bricks is the most crucial part and the local coordinator was helpful to find the most skilled brick layers in the local areas to help supervise the families (mostly single moms and their children) as they all got involved. The brick wall’s were then covered with mud to help to increase the temperature of the greenhouses. It is also to help keep the inside wall of the greenhouses clean and tidy.

We loved seeing the children get involved in the construction of the family greenhouse. Ultimately, the children benefit by being able to go to school because mom can grow quality fresh produce she can then sell and increase her income (her cash income can increase up to 70% per year thanks to her greenhouse yield). If mom works hard, this girl [below] along with around 250 other children just like her, will be able to complete their schooling and have a future filled with bright opportunities – thanks to this program, the supervisor, and our amazing partners – Shamtse Charity, GPA Global, and the annual Captivating Shenzhen Charity Auction.
